Central Otago Business Community Unites Under Business South Central Otago (BSCO)

The Central Otago business community now has a unified voice and a dedicated platform for growth and support with the establishment of Business South Central Otago (BSCO). This significant development comes as a result of collaborative efforts between Business South and the Central Otago advisory committee (COAC), aimed at fortifying support for businesses across all sectors within the region.

Recognising the need for a cohesive entity to champion the interests of local businesses, Business South and COAC have embarked on a transformative journey to create BSCO. This initiative seeks to empower the region's business community, fostering an environment where businesses can thrive and flourish.

Key enhancements include a rebranding from Central Otago advisory committee to Business South Central Otago (BSCO), signifying a deeper integration with Business South and its wealth of resources. Additionally, the formulation of comprehensive Terms of Reference grants the region a greater degree of autonomy, bolstered by the unwavering support of Business South.

Looking ahead, BSCO is poised to unveil its committee members and extend invitations for broader community participation, ensuring representation from diverse industries. By consolidating efforts and fostering collaboration, BSCO aims to speak with one united voice, effectively addressing challenges and seizing opportunities for the benefit of the entire Central Otago business community.

Expressing optimism for the future, Dewald de Beer, BSCO Chair remarked, "I am honoured to be part of this journey alongside an exceptional group of individuals. The establishment of BSCO signifies a bright future for our region, and we are committed to leveraging every opportunity to propel our community forward. I want to thank Mike Collins, CEO of Business South, and the entire Business South Board for their steadfast support and dedication to the region's growth.

Objectives of BSCO:

  1. Embody the vision of a thriving business environment benefiting the entire region through connectivity, navigation, and empowerment.
  2. Empower the region to assert a significant and autonomous stance on critical matters.
  3. Assist businesses in achieving success throughout their lifecycle.
  4. Foster meaningful connections, partnerships, and collaborations.
  5. Advocate on behalf of businesses across Central Otago to relevant stakeholders including Business South, local and central government, media, and the public.

BSCO's Goals for the Next 12 Months:

  • Engage with current members to educate them on the offerings of Business South.
  • Expand the committee to ensure representation from all sectors of the business community.
  • Collaborate with existing business groups to establish a unified business voice and support their initiatives.
  • Identify key areas where BSCO can add value to stimulate growth.
