The YES Otago Finals 2024

Congratulations to the winners of the YES Otago Finals; Second Harvest Sips. The winners were the Second Harvest Sips from Cromwell College. The team offers premium ready-to-go smoothie packs made from second-grade fruits (fruit that doesn’t make it to the supermarket shelves). These fruits may not meet the cosmetic standards of the industry but are perfect for blending. Second Harvest Sips will head to the Nationals in Wellington on Thursday, November 5th, to pitch.

Young Enterprise (YES) is a program where students set up and run a real business. Each YES company creates its own product or service and brings it to market. Secondary students in years 12 and 13 can participate in this program. Business South is happy to support this initiative.

The YES Otago Regional Finals were held at Wall Street Mall on Tuesday, October 22nd. The top six teams in the region pitched in front of a panel of judges:

  1. Maree Thyne – Dean and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Commerce at the University of Otago
  2. Mike Collins – CEO of Business South
  3. Mayor Jules Radich – Dunedin City Council
  4. Nigel Smellie – Partner at Findex Central Otago
  5. David Young – Professional Development Manager
