Press Release - Business South joins forces with Xero

Business South joins forces with Xero to empower Kiwi small businesses through financial literacy
Xero’s “Know Your Numbers” is a free programme to boost small business financial literacy

Business South today announced a new collaboration with Xero to bring the Know Your Numbers programme to its members - an initiative designed to strengthen financial literacy among small business owners and non-profits across Aotearoa New Zealand.

The partnership reflects Business South’s ongoing commitment to providing members with practical, accessible tools that directly address their biggest challenges. By joining forces with Xero, a global small business platform, Business South can  provide its extensive member network with financial literacy resources that help build stronger, more resilient businesses.

Know Your Numbers is a free programme that provides practical tools and support to help small businesses build confidence in managing their finances. It’s especially valuable for those who may not have access to traditional networks or resources to access support.

The programme was designed in collaboration with small business owners to fit into their busy lives and includes two key components:

  • Know Your Numbers content hub – A growing library of short videos and guides that can be accessed anytime, anywhere. Each resource is designed to be viewed in under five minutes, making financial learning flexible and accessible.
  • Xero For Good Ambassador Programme – Offering free mentoring from Xero accountants and bookkeepers, helping small business owners apply their new knowledge and take actionable steps toward long-term success.

Mike Collins, Chief Executive of Business South says the partnership aims to support their members to upskill their financial literacy and gain confidence in their business acumen.

Now more than ever, small business owners need the right tools to make confident decisions. Financial literacy isn’t just about compliance, it’s about unlocking opportunities and building long-term resilience. This partnership with Xero allows us to offer practical, support that fits into the reality of running a business. It’s another way we’re helping our members build stronger foundations for future growth,” says Mike.

Bridget Snelling, Xero New Zealand Country Manager says, We're pleased to be joining forces with Business South so Know Your Numbers can reach even more small businesses across Aotearoa New Zealand. Our country thrives on small business success, and Xero’s social impact programme is designed to help more businesses. Financial literacy shouldn’t be a privilege, so the Know Your Numbers programme is open to all small business owners, whether they use Xero or not. Even spending five minutes a week watching one of our videos could set more Kiwi businesses on the path to growth," concludes Bridget.
