Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 Update
Proposed reforms to the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 has just been announced by Workplace Relations and Safety Minister, Hon Brooke van Velden.
Business South Chief Executive, Mike Collins says, “It’s encouraging to see the government making practical changes that support small businesses while maintaining strong workplace safety standards. Today’s announcement on health and safety regulations is a step in the right direction—reducing unnecessary administration so businesses can focus on what really matters: keeping people safe.
For too long, many small businesses have been bogged down by compliance requirements that add paperwork but don’t necessarily improve safety outcomes. By streamlining reporting for minor incidents and removing redundant processes, businesses can now put their energy into managing real risks—the ones that have the potential to cause serious harm.
This kind of pragmatic decision-making benefits everyone. It ensures resources are directed where they’re needed most, enhances productivity, and ultimately creates safer workplaces. A positive move for business, and for New Zealand as a whole.”
We are looking forward to working with the Government on these reforms. Read the full announcement here.
